How to build your own super cheap laptop stand

The super cheap laptopstand is a no-budget version of a ergonomical stand to heighten the screen of your laptop on your desk. It's recommended that you use it with an external keyboard and mouse.

This page is just a simple step-by-step guide to build one yourself.

Step 1: Ingredients

You need a simple corrugated cardboard box. Any old box will do, we had a spare moving box that we used for this how-to. You will also need a boxcutter or scissors.

Step 2: Flatten the box

Flatten the box, but don't cut it yet, because you want at least one of the corners intact.

Step 3: Cut the rough shape

Trace out a the rough shape as seen on the picture. Each "leg" of the stand should be about the same length as the width of your laptop. If you start on a fold, you can easily mirror the shape. Don't worry about getting it right first try, you can always refine the shape by cutting away excess cardboard.

Step 4: The finished shape

The finished shape will be a roughly triangular piece of cardboard with a fold in the middle and a hook on each end and two notches for the support comb.

Step 5: The support comb

Cut out a rectangular piece of cardboard with a notch in each end. The width should be less than two thirds of your laptop.

Step 6: Assembly

To assemble, fold the laptopstand in the middle and insert the support comb in the notches. You should have something similar to the image.

Size comparison

The laptopstand we made is the right size for a 15" Laptop.
